Braxton Quartet takes stage at Seed
ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Anthony Braxton will perform at Sabancı Museum’s The Seed. Born in Chicago in 1945, Braxton’s interest in classical music and jazz led him to pursue an education at the Chicago School of Music and later study philosophy and composition at Roosevelt University. During this time he became acquainted with many of his future collaborators, including saxophonists Joseph Jarman and Roscoe Mitchell. Following his military service, he founded a jazz trio called The Creative Construction Company. His life in Paris and New York paved the way for many more band formations and the release of a multitude of records. Braxton is currently a professor of music history, improvisation and composition at Wesleyan University. He describes himself and his work as creativity at large rather than just music.
