Borusan’s Nova Muzak Series present Alva Noto
Alva Noto, alias for the audio-visual artist Carsten Nicolai, will make his Istanbul debut at Borusan Music House on Feb. 18, marking probably the most experimental event of the entire Nova Muzak Series. Nicolai focuses on the theoretical characteristics of venue and sound. He settled in Berlin in the early 90’s to be able to benefit from this city, which is the heart of underground art and a major centre for techno-music, in exploiting his creativity to the full. He founded his own label and recorded albums that each proposes a different approach to the subtypes of electronic music, such as glitch and minimal techno. In Alva Noto’s music, clicks and glitches are not ornamental elements but on the contrary, they are the essence of the rhythmic and harmonic texture of the music. Nikolai transforms sounds such as fax beeps, telex tones and telephone pips by looping oscillators and tone generators in his search of forming genuine sound textures. The tickets are available at Biletix booths and the venue’s main booth.
