Bora Başkan’s exhibit opens at Apel
Bora Başkan is the first guest of Per-so-na’s events, from May 24 to June 23, 2012. The first solo exhibition of Başkan, “Cohesive,” brings together drawings, digital prints and canvases in which the artist abstracts the concept of power.
Başkan’s images of power, derived from Deleuze’s readings of Spinoza, are monolithic structures that join together different pieces and organisms, which connect the individuals to power on a social level. Through compositions, emotions such as unhappiness, agony and enslavement are jointed to the organisms’ essence. The dosed increment of the general state of unhappiness and sadness is offset by the motivation derived from the illusion of sharing power. The organisms continue to form structures of power, unaware that their forces of existence are continuously thus brought down.
