Board to sell grids this year

The Turkish government hopes it will privatize “at least” two to three electricity distribution regions by the yearend, according to the Privatization Administration deputy president, Ahmet Aksu.

Legal arrangements have been done to improve productivity and competition in the energy sector, Aksu said yesterday during a speech at a conference on investments, competition, risks and expectations in energy markets.

Nine electricity regions have been transferred to the private sector so far, generating revenues of $5 billion, according to Aksu. “We hope that we will also transfer two or three electricity distribution regions as of the end of the year.”
