The blast occurred at Roketsan, a Turkish rocket and missile maker, during disposal of rocket fuel at 11:43 a.m. (0943 GMT), said Ejder Saricicek, governor of the town of Elmadag near the capital Ankara.

Firefighting crews arriving at the scene quickly extinguished the blaze before it spread to surrounding factory buildings.

No one was killed or injured in the explosion, Saricicek and factory officials said, AP reported.

The explosion rocked buildings in Elmadag and caused panic among residents, the state-run Anatolia news agency said. It shattered windows and caused cracks in some buildings at the factory, private NTV television said.
