Bibliopole starts at Beyoğlu

The festival is being held in Tepebaşı, just off İstiklal Street in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu.

Istanbul’s Beyoğlu Municipality is bringing together book collectors and rare book dealers at the sixth Beyoğlu Bibliopole Festival, from Sept. 25 to Oct. 14.

As last year, the festival is being held in Tepebaşı, just off İstiklal Street in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district. A total of 68 booksellers are taking part, displaying and selling old books, magazines, photos, films, theater posters, letters, postcards and special collections. The festival is also featuring numerous other activities such as auctions.

“Our festival attracts great attention and allows readers to meet bibliopoles … We are waiting for everyone at our festival, which will host many activities … We have enriched our program this year and are going to be holding literary conversations with renowned writers and poets,” Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan said.

According to Demircan, this is one of Beyoğlu’s most important annual events, and every second hand book shelf is a treasure. “I believe the best way of developing oneself is through the books.”
A total of 68 bibliophiles will attend at the festival from various districts in Istanbul such as Kadıköy, Beyazıt, Moda, Sarıyer, Ortaköy and Şişli.

Apart from Turkish books it is possible to find rare books in Arabic, Persian, Armenian, Russian and Hebrew. As well as these books, various other paraphernalia can also be browsed or purchased at the festival, including many Ottoman periodicals and encyclopedias.
This year’s festival will continue until Oct. 14.
