Beyoğlu’s long history reveals in new exhibit

The new exhibition showcases the history of Beyoğlu’s municipality.
The Tophane-i Amire building in Istanbul’s central Beyoğlu district is hosting “A Timeline of Beyoğlu: Toward a City Museum,” co-organized by the Beyoğlu Municipality and Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts.The exhibition opened yesterday to continue through Sept. 28.
The exhibition is planned to mark the 155th year since the founding of Beyoğlu Municipality. Curated by Prof. Sadık Karamustafa and Feza Kürkçüoğlu, the exhibition’s academic consultants are Fahri Aral and Nedret İşli, as well as celebrated history professor İlber Ortaylı.
The exhibited items include photographs, videos, models, posters and similar ephemera, both in print and digital versions, all showcasing the signature aspects of Beyoğlu.
A timeline of the municipal history of the area is displayed right across the hall, in which the most influential architects that shaped Beyoğlu are being displayed at the exhibition.
