Turkish football giant Beşiktaş has announced that it will play its home matches at Kasımpaşa’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium for the coming 2013-14 Super League season. The Black Eagles, whose İnönü Stadium is being demolished to make way for a more modern and lucrative ground, will use its Istanbul neighbor’s stadium during the process.
“A contract has been signed between two clubs, Beşiktaş and Kasımpaşa, in order to play all our team’s home matches, except the Istanbul derbies, at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium this following season in the Spor Toto Super League,” the club said in an official declaration on July 17.
Beşiktaş did not clarify where it will play the derbies against Istanbul rivals Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, although the 76,000-seat Atatürk Olympic Stadium, which will not have a Super League tenant this year, remains a strong option.
The Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium has a capacity of just 13,500.
The construction of the Turkish club’s new stadium is expected to finish in October 2014.
