Beşiktaş keeps title chase behind Fenerbahçe

Beşiktaş continued to chase Spor Toto Super League leader Fenerbahçe with a commanding 3-0 win over Akhisar on March 23.The Black Eagles gave a strong start to the game, with goals from Veli Kavlak in the second minute and Mustafa Pektemek in the eighth minute, helping them control the play early on. Canadian midfielder Atiba Hutchinson sealed the score in the second half.
With the win, Beşiktaş took its points tally to 50 points from 26 matches. Fenerbahçe leads the standings with 54 points before its meeting against Gaziantepspor.
Fenerbahçe is the overwhelming favorite for the championship with just eight rounds left to play, but it is still to visit Beşiktaş and Galatasaray, where its title credentials will be tested.
Galatasaray all but threw in the towel when it lost 1-0 to a hapless Kayserispor, sitting at the bottom of standings, on March 22.
Also on March 23, Gençlerbirliği beat Sanica Boru Elazığspor 3-1, and the Kayseri Erciyesspor-Sivasspor game ended in a 1-1 draw.
