Beirut hosting jazz artists

The Lebanese capital continued hosting the four-concert 2011 Beirut Jazz Festival this week. The event, in its fourth year, is being organized in the open-air concert center of a shopping mall in the Green Line region of the city.
Lebanese oud player and composer Rabih Abou Khalil – the “Master of Oriental Jazz” – performed on the first day of the festival Friday, receiving great interest from both Lebanese and foreigners.
The Philippe El Hage Quintet featuring Houry Dora Apartian performed Saturday.
World-famous Cuban pianist and Grammy Award winner Chucho Valdez and the Afro-Cuban Messengers will play Thursday, while American guitarist and Grammy Award winner Marcus Miller will take the stage on Saturday to close out the event.
