The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has submitted a motion of censure against Minister of Internal Affairs İdris Naim Şahin yesterday for his instructions to security forces to prevent Nevruz celebrations and protests of the education bill. The separate incidents have resulted in two deaths, hundreds of injuries, and over 1,000 behind bars after police forces clashed with citizens as a result of the Ministers instructions, stated the BDP’s motion of censure.
BDP group deputy chairman Hasip Kaplan pointed out that no violence took place during previous Nevruz celebrations that were not banned. Asked about Minister Şahin’s previous statement that “the spit of 75 million would drown them,” Kaplan responded that “the people are being patient. But when their patience runs out, the spit will turn into a tsunami and take with it the people whp make such terrible statements.”
