Banvit, Anadolu Efes set for semifinal decider
BANDIRMA, Balıkesir
Banvit hosts Anadolu Efes in the deciding game five of the two teams’ Beko Turkish Basketball League (TBL) semifinal series on May 26.The winner of the tie will meet Beşiktaş Milangaz, who eliminated Galatasaray Medical Park 3-1, in the final series starting next week. The series is tied at 2-2 after Banvit got a 73-71 away win on May 23.
Charles Davis and Kenan Bajramovic each scored 17 points to lead the team, which hails from the Bandırma district of Balıkesir.
The game saw a controversial decision in the last minute, when referees ruled for Efes guard Kerem Tunçeri to shoot two free throws after being fouled. However, the television replays showed that Tunçeri was behind the three-point line when fouled, which should have prompted three foul throws. Had he converted three from the line, it could have given the edge to Efes.
Banvit coach Orhun Ene admitted the referees got that wrong, in a decision that could have eliminated his team from the playoffs.
The game at the Banvit Kara Ali Acar Sports Hall starts at 6 p.m.
