Bağış blames EU for drop in Turks’ confidence
European Union Minister Egemen Bağış blamed the European Union for a reported drop in Turks’ confidence in the European group.
“The situation is not related Turkey’s credibility, but it is related to the EU’s,” he said. Bağış’s remarks came after a recent poll said the rate of those who believed Turkey would become an EU member had decreased from 34.8 percent to 17 percent in just a year.
“People in Turkey lost their confidence in the European Union because the bloc applies double standards in visa procedures to Turkish citizens and externalized Turkish Cypriot people who say ‘yes for a solution’ but gave membership status to Greek Cypriot,” Bağış said.
