A gun made especially for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, has been sold at an auction in London for 26,000 British pounds. The pistol, which included an inscription saying “General Mustafa Kemal" in gold print, was bought by Bülent Türker, a Turkish man who has lived in the Netherlands for 30 years.
"I will take the gun back to Turkey. I am honored to do this. I bought it for our country and our martyrs," said Türker.
The sale at the famous Christie's Auction House was followed by more than 60 people online.
The pistol was crafted as a gift to Atatürk by the then-president of Argentina, Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear, but officials are not sure whether the weapon ever reached its destination.
