Arabesque singer still in hospital
ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency
Arabesque singer Müslüm Gürses has been in intensive care since the bay-pass operation on Nov 15.
Cult Turkish arabesque singer Müslüm Gürses, who is in intensive care for liver and renal failure, is currently in a critical condition, according to Bingür Sönmez, cardiovascular surgeon Istanbul’s Memorial Hospital.“Any patient in intensive care is in a life-threatening condition. It will be a long intensive care process for Gürses. His critical condition still continues,” Sönmez said.
The singer’s doctors held a press conference yesterday in the hospital, where he underwent a by-pass operation on Nov. 15. Sönmez said Gürses’s respiration problem appeared on Nov. 17 and that his condition had deteriorated because of liver and renal failure that occurred later on.
Sönmez said they had been trying to persuade Gürses to quit smoking for a long time. “But we failed. His body has been mistreated. This condition was not a surprise for us. Such situations often appear after by-pass operations.”
“Everything is under control at the moment, but there can be a bad surprise at any moment. We are dealing with him using the most advanced medicine and technology,” the surgeon said.
