Ankara hails halt to ROJ TV
ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News
Ankara welcomed a decision by France-based satellite company Eutelsat to remove ROJ TV from the list of satellite channels it offers in line with a recent Danish court verdict.Turkey hopes other institutions will also take such action in line with their legal and human responsibilities, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said Jan. 20, adding that Turkey would be following other institutions to see if they comply as well.
A Copenhagen court delivered a verdict Jan. 10, ruling that ROJ TV was an instrument of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) through its financial, structural and operational ties.
After the verdict, Eutelsat decided to stop offering ROJ TV and asked other distributors to do likewise, stating that it was doing so to comply with the court verdict.
ROJ TV does not own studios in Denmark, but broadcasts to 68 countries from Copenhagen via satellite.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
