The Ankara Bar Association has filed a lawsuit against a decision taken by Turkey’s Telecommunication Directorate (TİB) to block access to YouTube, demanding stay of execution and cancelation of the ban.In the petition, the Ankara Bar Association said the YouTube block was a violation of freedom of expression, adding that it was a wrong decision that would negatively affect the security of polls and the atmosphere of the democratic process.
It demanded the cancelation of the ban, while asking the Ankara Administrative Court to grant a stay of execution during the legal process, considering the irrecoverable damage that could be caused by the ban.
The TİB blocked access to YouTube on March 27, hours after leaked recordings of a key security meeting between government officials over Syria were published on the video sharing website.
