ANTALYA - Anadolu Agency
The ancient hippopotamus teeth are estimated to be 100,000 years old.
Hippopotamus teeth from 100,000 years ago were found during excavations in the southern province of Antalya’s Karain inn. Excavations have been continuing in the area for 28 years, said the head of the excavation team, Professor Işın Yalçınkaya. She said that the Karain inn was important in terms of nature and history as well as of archaeological researches, adding that the 300-meter long inn had been home to many game animals since there was a lake in the area hundreds of thousands of years ago.
“We examined the inn. There are remnants from the Cut Stone period in some part of the inn. We found two hippopotamus teeth during excavations here. The teeth are very strong. It is almost impossible to find such strong teeth. We estimate that these teeth are 100,000 years old.”
