Zaman ends contract with news agency
ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
The conservative Zaman Media Group, which controls daily Zaman and Today’s Zaman, has ended its subscription with state-run Anatolia news agency, Zaman Editor-in-Chief and Media Group CEO Ekrem Dumanlı said earlier today. The decision was based on the “improper practices of the agency” that failed to improve over time, Dumanlı said in an opinion piece, citing extra fees and falsely advertised exclusive material, which are in fact “related to public institutions or events using public funds.” Dumanlı added such “injustice” was difficult to tolerate and that the agency received unfair contributions from the state.
“It is not hard to figure out how much support Anatolia news agency receives from the state and the amount of support that other agencies receive,” Dumanlı said.
