Yo-Yo Ma to close İzmir Festival

The 28th International İzmir Festival, organized by the İzmir Foundation for Culture and Arts, will end on Sept. 3 with a concert by French-American cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The cellist, who has won 17 Grammy awards over the course of his career and who currently serves as an EU peace envoy, will be accompanied by the Silk Road Ensemble.

Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble will give a concert upon the special invitation of the festival at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center and will perform Adnan Saygun’s piece “Partita,” which has been performed by Ma since 2001 and is included in his new album “A Playlist without Borders.” Along with Saygun, Ma also plays 17 pieces from American, Chinese, Egyptian, Iranian composers in the album, released in 2013 to celebrate the 15th year of his Silk Road Project, which originated to keep cultural, artistic and intellectual traditions alive.

Yo-Yo Ma He has recorded over 75 albums and has been honored with numerous awards.
