Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım held an impromptu meeting with main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at parliament during debates on the government’s constitutional amendment proposal late on Jan. 10.

Ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) leader Yıldırım had come to parliament for discussions on the constitutional amendment, as the General Assembly was hosting lengthy debates on items of the 18-article offer.

Yıldırım first visited his own party’s lawmakers before visiting the Parliament Journalists’ Association (PMD) on the occasion of “Jan. 10 Working Journalists Day.”

He then visited the opposition lobby, where he greeted a number of opposition lawmakers and then approached Kılıçdaroğlu, who was sitting with CHP group deputy chairs Gürsel Tekin and Özgür Özel.

The two drank tea and chatted for a short while before debates resumed in the General Assembly.
