Worker killed in work accident in Istanbul’s Marmaray railway

Fatih Uysal, 27, was killed as he was operating a machine attempting to stop water from leaking in the tunnel. 
His co-workers called for an ambulance after the accident and he was rushed to the Haydarpaşa Hospital in Istanbul’s Kadiköy district before succumbing to his wounds.

Police teams were also sent to the scene.

Uysal’s body was later sent for an autopsy and has since been delivered to his relatives. 

His funeral is scheduled to be held in the Central Anatolian province of Çorum. 

Officials have not issued a statement regarding his death, though railway services in the Marmaray tunnel were partially suspended after the accident.

An announcement of delays in the tunnel stirred controversy after the accident, as it read that services were taking longer than usual “due to a technical malfunction.”
