Village guard killed, six others injured in PKK attack in Turkey’s Diyarbakır

One village guard was killed and six others were wounded in an attack by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on April 3, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, quoting local sources. 

The PKK militants opened fire on village guards in the Kulp district, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The attack came when six village guards and a civilian were loading a truck.

The injured guards—two of them in a critical condition—were rushed to a nearby hospital, the source added.

Anti-terror operations were underway in the region to catch the militants.

Three soldiers injured in Tunceli, Iğdır 

In a separate incident, a specialist sergeant was injured on April 4 when an improvised explosive device reportedly planted by PKK militants detonated in the eastern province of Tunceli, a security source said.

The incident occurred during a counter-terrorism operation carried out by local gendarmerie forces against PKK militants in the Çemişgezek district, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The injured soldier was rushed to the Elazığ Fırat University Hospital in a military helicopter, the source added.

In a separate incident, at least two soldiers were injured on April 4 during clashes with PKK militants in the eastern Iğdır province, security sources said.

Clashes broke out between Turkish troops and the militants in the Küçük Ağrı Mountain region near the border with Iran, said the sources.

The injured soldiers were rushed to hospitals in the provinces of Kars and Iğdır.

Iğdır State Hospital’s chief of medicine Dr. Raşit İlhan told reporters the soldiers were in stable condition.

Security forces launched an operation in the area to catch the militants.
