The uprising ended when prison guards regained control and removed the prisoners from the roof. The cause of the uprising was unknown, the agency said, adding that security measures around the prison increased.

The Anatolian Agency reported that the prisoners who started the uprising were convicted of theft. While they set fire to the roof, they shouted, “We want democracy. We don’t want pressure,” according to the agency.

Several ambulances and fire engines were sent into the prison zone, the Dogan News Agency reported.
