Two assailants opened fire outside of a prison in the southeastern province of Mardin on Sept. 19, killing a woman and her four children, authorities said, adding that the motive of the killings may have been a blood feud. The 24-year-old woman, identified by her first name Emine, was visiting relatives together with her children at Mardin’s E-type closed prison facility. Another child, who was injured and not a relative of the victims, was transferred to hospital.
The shooters were seen by witnesses hastily escaping the crime scene by foot following the murder.
Police immediately launched an extensive investigation into the incident and blocked all entrances and exits into and out of the city.
After the first inspection, officials said a blood feud might be the reason behind the murder, stressing, however, that the results of the investigation should be received to determine the definitive motive of the deaths.
The bodies were sent to forensic medics for autopsies. Of the murdered children, one was four-years-old, reports said, while the ages of the others were not disclosed.
