Two Syrian refugee women have caused a stir by dropping a baby girl on the sidewalk before running away, in the southern Turkish province of Adana.

According to a June 10 report by Doğan News Agency, the incident occurred in Adana’s Yüreğir district.

Eyewitnesses said the women had been quarrelling about providing care for the five-month-old baby before they ran away. Locals were unable to catch the women but they immediately informed the police.

The baby was taken to a public hospital in Adana in an ambulance, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The estimated number of Syrian refugees in Turkey recently passed 2 million.
