The fighting took place during a security operation targeting the terrorist PKK organization near the town of Malazgirt in Mus province, Gov. Erdogan Bektas told the agency.
Security forces were investigating whether one of the terrorists was behind a rocket attack last year on a police station in Malazgirt that killed one officer and wounded three others, he added.
The Turkish military announced that four other PKK terrorists were killed Friday. Those terrorists were also believed to be among those responsible for an attack on a military vehicle at the end of April in which nine soldiers were killed.
The PKK is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by Turkey and much of the international community, including the United States and the European Union.
