Two PKK militants killed while attempting to infiltrate military base in Turkey’s Hakkari

Two outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants were killed by Turkish jets after they attempted to infiltrate a military base in the southeastern province of Hakkari, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on June 13.

Three PKK militants were bombarded with fire before they infiltrated the military base, while a number of weapons and ammunitions were also seized, according to a statement from the Hakkari Governor’s Office.  

“Three AK-47-type Kalashnikovs, 15 Kalashnikov chargers, 13 hand grenades, two explosive belts, four umbrellas, two bomb cases and a number of life support materials were seized as part of the operation,” the statement said.     

Meanwhile, one Turkish soldier was killed due to an explosion of a hand-made bomb placed on a road by PKK militants in the eastern province of Bingöl.

The soldier was killed during a military vehicle passage on June 12, according to a statement from the Turkish Armed Forces.

One day earlier, one specialized sergeant was killed in an attack during an operation against the PKK in Bingöl. 

“On June 11, at around 19:30, our soldiers were martyred in an attack by PKK members in the region of Genç district, in the Sağlık neighborhood, in Bingöl,” the military said.
