Two detained over murder of three Kurdish women in Paris

French police detained two suspects Jan. 18 in connection with the killing of three female members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), French daily Le Parisien reported today.

The suspects, aged 39 and 31, are reportedly residents of the Courneuve district and were born in Turkey. They were detained in the afternoon hours.

One of the suspects may have been the driver of Sakine Cansız, the eldest of the three victims.

The details of their alleged involvement in the killings have not yet been revealed.

TV channel BFM soon confirmed the reports of their detention.

Cansız, a prominent figure in the PKK’s European wing, Leyla Söylemez and Fidan Doğan were murdered in an execution-style attack on Jan. 9 as a new round of peace talks was launched between the Turkish government and Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the PKK
