Tweet praising my work was shared by consulting firm: Turkish mayor

The mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has claimed that a tweet which praised his work and was shared on his official Twitter account was sent without his knowledge and was tweeted by a social media management consulting firm.

The mayor from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Altepe said the municipality had ceased its relations with the firm after the controversial tweet. 

“My mayor @recep_altepe, we know the person who serves this city so much. We see your efforts and services. Thanks,” said the tweet, which prompted widespread derision among social media users.

Social media users speculated that Altepe accidentally shared the tweet that he intended to share on another account. 

The tweet was subsequently deleted from his account and posted from a different account.
