Türkiye lends support to Lebanon’s unity, slams Israeli attacks
ANKARA
Türkiye has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in the face of ongoing Israeli military strikes, while urging the international community to pressure the Netanyahu administration to end its aggression.
The National Security Council (MGK), in a bimonthly meeting on April 8, evaluated the current regional security conditions following the temporary ceasefire announced between the U.S.-Israel and Iran.
“The Council welcomed efforts aimed at bringing an end to the war between Israel, the United States and Iran, noting that the conflict is driving both the region and the globe into profound uncertainty and disrupting global economic stability, and reaffirmed that it will continue to implement all necessary measures to safeguard the security of our citizens and borders with the highest level of vigilance,” the statement read.
It warned that continued Israeli attacks on Gaza and Lebanon risk undermining regional stability and peace.
“It was underscored that the extension of Israel’s occupation policies to Lebanon has led to new humanitarian tragedies, and the international community was called upon to take action against these unlawful acts; Türkiye’s strong support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity was reaffirmed,” it stated.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also denounced Israel for continuing its attacks on Lebanon.
“We condemn in the strongest terms Israel’s intensifying attacks on Lebanon, which have resulted in significant loss of life. These attacks are further exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the country,” read a statement issued by the ministry.
“Despite the recently achieved ceasefire in the region, the Netanyahu government continues to undermine international efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability. We reiterate our unequivocal support for the preservation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it said.
“The international community must act without delay to bring an end to Israel’s occupation of Lebanon and ensure the protection of civilians,” it added.
