Composite Tissue Translplantation Committee recently cancelled Hacettepe University's transplantation license following two seperate transplant operations, one of which resulted in the death of the patient. The committee ruled that both transplants were "lacking requirements for regulatory purposes", daily Hürriyet reported.
Ministry of Health stated that Hacettepe's quaruple limb transplantation done by Hacettepe staff was against regulations, while the face transplant also failed to hold proper standards.
Şevket Çavdar, the world’s first quadruple-limb transplant patient, died late February, after his body refused to accept the new appendages following surgery over the weekend.
Doctors had operated on Çavdar on Feb. 24, conducting the country’s first quadruple-limb transplant, along with a separate full face transplant operation. The operations were conducted by 54 doctors and 128 health personnel.
