Turkish treasures to go on view in China

The exhibition that will open at the Shanghai Museum will display 122 items.

Turkish treasures are going on display in China, allowing Chinese citizens to view artifacts from the country after a similar exhibition of objects from the Asian giant went on display between November 2012 and February 2013 in Istanbul.

The exhibition will be held as part of Turkey Year in China events, which are being celebrated all around the country.

The exhibition that will open at the Shanghai Museum will display 122 items from the Istanbul Archaeology Museums. Among the items are stamps and tablets from the Hittite period, bronze goddess and emperor sculptures, Ottoman objects like swords and helmets, kaftans, Qurans, carpets, prayer rugs and other artifacts.

Five of China’s famous terracotta sculptures, which belong to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, were on display at the exhibition at the Topkapı Palace Museum. According to Chinese law, bringing more than five terracotta soldiers out of the country is prohibited. A special air-conditioning and lightning system was established in the Has Ahırlar area to accommodate the relics. The exhibition also featured 101 other pieces from Chinese museums.
