The Environment and Urban Planning Ministry is preparing to collaborate with the finance and youth and sports ministries to demolish and rebuild stadiums that are risk of natural disasters as part of an urban transformation project that commenced Oct. 5.

The government’s urban transformation project is especially directed at areas that are susceptible to risks posed by flooding and earthquakes. The demolished stadiums will be replaced with new ones that comply with global standards.

The Environment and Urban Planning Ministry will oversee the project bringing together the three ministries. The project will start with an appraisal of which stadiums should be demolished before addressing issues related to funding. The ministries are expected to sign the collaboration protocol in the near future. The rebuilt grounds will be endowed with the latest technology, such as Barcelona’s Nou Camp, Ajax’s Amsterdam Arena, and Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich’s Allianz Arena. The renewal projects will first begin in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir.
