Turkish scrap dealers steal two precious English thoroughbreds for carriage

A court in Turkey’s northwestern province of Kocaeli has released pending trial three suspects who were questioned for stealing two English thoroughbred horses, worth around 100,000 Turkish Liras each, to use for pulling carriages.

The seized horses were handed back to the owners under the watch of the local gendarmerie.

The suspects, who earn their living collecting scrap with a carriage and selling it on, had on March 1 stolen the unlucky horses from a stud farm in Kocaeli’s Ketenciler village, which is famous for horse breeding.

Observing the surveillance camera film, the gendarmerie discovered that the horses were taken to the Tavşantepe neighborhood in İzmit, where they found them and detained the three suspects in the case.

The suspects admitted in their testimony to court on March that they had stolen the horses to use them in their scrap business. They have been released pending trial.
