Turkish President Abdullah Gül is set to go to the southern province of Hatay's Reyhanlı district on May 16 to make investigations into the terrorist attack that killed 51 Turkish citizens in the border town on May 11.

The trip will be Gül’s first to the district, which borders Syria, since the attacks.

Gül is expected to visit the area on the same day as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to meet U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington.

The first visitor to Reyhanlı was Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).

Erdoğan has said he will visit Reyhanlı after a planned trip to the United States.

Thirteen Turkish citizens are in custody in connection to the car-bomb attack.
