The court in the Aegean city of Izmir found the officer, E.A., guilty of "killing an individual by exceeding the limits of his duty unintentionally while implementing the law," the agency said.

The court released ten other officers accused of falsifying documents and burying evidence, it added.

Baran Tursun, 20, was killed in 2007, when police opened fire on his car in the Bornova district of Izmir.

In a similar incident last year in the southern province of Antalya, an officer was detained after he allegedly shot dead Cagdas Gemik, 18, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, for also ignoring police calls to stop.
