Turkish police detains 10 alleged members of PKK-affiliated group

Turkish police have launched a wave of operations in five provinces, detaining 10 people alleged to have been members of a group affiliated with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Police conducted simultaneous raids in Ankara, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Hakkari and Hatay on June 24 as part of the operations centered in Ankara. 

The operation was conducted by counter-terrorism units at the Ankara Police Department after a group allegedly pressured students at Ankara University Faculty of Educational Sciences and prevented them from taking exams, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported. Police identified 16 suspects alleged to have been members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), a youth group affiliated with the PKK, accusing them of resisting police and damaging public property during street demonstrations.

Police are continuing in their attempt to apprehend the remaining six, the agency said, adding that “many organizational documents” were found during the raids. The agency did not elaborate on the nature of the “organizational documents.”
