Turkish police detain 55 HDP and DBP members in southeast

Police detained 55 members of the Kurdish issue-focused Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and its local affiliate the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), including senior officials, in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır early on Oct. 11.Police raided addresses belonging to party members in an operation conducted across several districts in Diyarbakır, Doğan News Agency has reported.
At least 55 party members were detained in the raids, including the provincial co-chairs of the HDP and the DBP.
All those detained were taken to the Diyarbakır police department.
In addition, police and gendarmerie forces also detained the DBP’s Bitlis provincial co-chairs and provincial council members as part of an investigation launched by the Bitlis Chief Prosecutor’s Office.
In the eastern province of Tunceli, police conducted operations on the addresses of eight HDP members, including former HDP lawmaker and former Tunceli Mayor Edibe Şahin.
Police seized computers, mobile phones, cameras, memory cards and CDs during the raids.
