Turkish PM should discard tutelage of the president, CHP leader says

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu should remove the "tutelage" imposed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the main opposition party leader has said.

In his first assessment after Erdoğan’s address to Parliament for the opening of the legislative year on Oct. 1, Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said he had watched Davutoğlu during the president’s speech and he appeared to become exasperated during the address.

“Erdoğan says one should get rid of tutelage. Davutoğlu should follow his lead and disengage from that tutelage,” Kılıçdaroğlu told reporters.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli told reporters that Erdoğan’s speech was given as if he were the "spokesperson of the Cabinet."

Prior to the presidential elections, the MHP had argued that Erdoğan could not behave as a proper president, Bahçeli said, adding that “Erdoğan’s speech proved this.”
