ANKARA

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe signed on Oct. 29 the official agreement for building Turkey's second nuclear plant in the Black Sea province of Sinop.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will make a trip to a number of destinations in the Far East including Japan, Malaysia and Singapore between Jan. 4 and 11. Erdoğan’s visit comes at a time when Turkey has decided its third nuclear plant will be constructed by a consortium including Japan’s Mitsubishi.

Erdoğan and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe are expected to discuss a joint project to establish a science and technology college in Turkey and possible joint development of engines for use in military tanks.

Erdoğan will also be received in an audience by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

Abe visited Istanbul in October for the opening ceremony of the Marmaray, the underwater rail tunnel linking the European and Asian sides of Istanbul, constructed by a Turkish-Japanese consortium.
