Turkish Parliament Speaker Kahraman taken to hospital for operation

Turkish Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman has been taken to hospital for treatment of a vein infection, Doğan News Agency reported on Dec. 30.

Doctors at Ankara’s Güven Hospital detected the infection during a routine control, the agency reported. 

“Our esteemed speaker is undergoing an operation. I met with him and his family beforehand,” Health Minister Recep Akdağ said, adding that Kahraman was in a good condition and was making jokes ahead of the operation. 

Akdağ did not elaborate on the nature of the operation.
