An 80-year-old man in the Ereğli district of the Central Anatolian Konya province was allegedly caught half-naked, raping a cow owned by another person, daily Habertürk reported today. The incident reportedly occurred in Ereğli's Fatih neighborhood yesterday night. A.U. went into a stable he owned to check on his animals and saw S.S. behind a cow with his pants down, allegedly raping the animal.
A.U. and his son-in-law chased away S.S. from the stable, who returned to A.U.'s home this morning wielding a shotgun and threatened the cow's owner to keep what he saw to himself. A.U. went to the police after the threat and filed a complaint against S.S. Police officers detained the suspect shortly after, who rejected the claims directed at himself. Authorities also seized the weapon S.S. allegedly used to threaten A.U.
S.S. was then sent to a hospital for a health report and was directed to a courthouse for legal procedures.
It was claimed S.S. was previously caught by the police in his apartment with two women after his neighbors filed complaints of prostitution against him.
Last week, a villager in the northwestern province of Bursa was detained by police after claims that he raped a duck. The man was later released.
Article 5199 of the Protection of Animals Act criminalizes sexual intercourse with animals but the punishment is a mere 250-Turkish Lira fine. A recent draft law seeks to penalize animal abuse within the Turkish Penal code, which, if accepted, would bring prison terms to those who torture or rape animals, while bringing monetary fines up to date.
