Turkish "no to war" hashtag trending globally on Twitter

Social media users demonstrated their strong opposition to Turkey's possible involvement in a war with Syria by tweeting with the hashtag "savasahayir" ("no to war") last night following an incident at the Turkey-Syria border in which a number of Turkish civilians were killed or injured by stray mortar fire from the Syrian side of the border. 
 
The tweets quickly moved beyond just Turkish users, and became a global trending topic on the social networking microblog. Users tweeting in Turkish, English and other languages all showed their support for a peaceful resolution between the former allies.
 
The topic is still at the top of the world trending list.
