Turkey’s national air carrier, Turkish Airlines, will acquire dozens of new planes this year, a top executive of the firm said yesterday.Turkish Airlines Executive Board Chairman Hamdi Topçu said 36 new planes will be added to the airline’s fleet this year, as part of 91-plane acquisition program. The airline company made investments worth $950 million last year, excluding plane purchases, Topçu said.
The company is also slated to complete the construction of a 380,000-square-meter indoor hangar area at Sabiha Gökçen Airport soon, Topçu said. Turkish Airlines’ maintenance capacity will increase fourfold when the facility goes into operation in September.
