A spokesman for the Turkish army, Metin Gurak, told a weekly press briefing that it was not possible for the military to make an assessment regarding the election outcome.
Gurak added however that "this situation is not an obstacle for us to think about the reasons for the results, especially in the southeastern region," signaling the military is concerned by the increase in support for the pro-Kurdish party.
The pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, or DTP, gained nearly 5.7 percent of the votes in the city council voting and won municipalities in a majority of the provinces in the region.
