Turkish main opposition warns its deputy against making spy accusations

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) issued an official “warning” on Nov. 6 to one of its deputies for charging another CHP deputy of being a “CIA agent.”

Back in April, during a closed-door CHP parliamentary group meeting, the party’s Uşak deputy, Dilek Akagün Yılmaz, a name with neo-nationalist tendencies, called the party’s reformist deputy chair, Sezgin Tanrıkulu, a “CIA Agent.”

It was reported at the time that this dispute had angered party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Six months on from the incidents, Yılmaz’s provocative labeling of Tanrıkulu eventually reached the CHP’s parliamentary group’s disciplinary board, who decided to warn her as a result.
