Turkish journalist’s case sent to the High Criminal Court over critical tweet

ISTANBUL – Cihan News Agency
An Istanbul court sent a Turkish journalist’s case to the High Criminal Court after deciding non-jurisdiction April 30 at the first hearing of Sedef Kabaş, a journalist and anchorwoman who faces up to five years in prison for a tweet about a judge involved in the Dec. 17, 2013, corruption probe.

“Do not forget the name of the judge who decided not to continue proceedings in the Dec. 17 probe,” Kabaş had tweeted, referring to the judge who dropped the country’s biggest corruption probe on Dec. 16, 2014.

Before her trial, Kabaş said she believed in justice, while speaking to journalists outside Istanbul’s Çağlayan courthouse.

An indictment was prepared for Kabaş on charges of “targeting people involved in the fight against terrorism and making threats.”

Kabaş was detained on Dec. 30, 2014, at her house and released after testifying before a prosecutor.
