DİYARBAKIR - Demiroren News Agency
A high school student in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakır has been detained for hacking into the national school system to change their grades.
The 10th grader in Turk Telekom Vocational and Technical High School, identified only as S. Ş. M., was accused by the police on Jan. 18 for hacking the Education Ministry’s online system for school administration, dubbed e-Okul.
He allegedly increased his grades by 20 points for each course, while decreasing the number of his absent days from 59 to nine. The cyber-crime teams of the Diyarbakır police launched an operation to detain the student after a school administrator noticed that there were some incompatibilities between the teachers’ reports and the records in the system.
The student’s identity was revealed when the police found the IP addresses of the person who intruded the e-Okul system.
As the student remained under detention, a criminal investigation was launched to find out how a 15-year-old could have hacked a nationwide public system.
