Turkish gov’t plans to net $1.8 billion from new green tax on electricity, gas consumption

If the national energy efficiency strategy draft is passed in parliament, two new taxes will be added to energy and gas consumption.
According to the plan prepared by the Energy Ministry’s Renewable Energy Directorate, a total of 5.2 billion liras in taxes will be collected and industrial subscribers will pay around 4.8 billion liras of this amount.
The first of the planned taxes will be collected from all electricity subscribers, according to Milliyet. The second tax will be collected from industrial and commercial subscribers for their electricity and natural gas consumption.
According to the projections in the draft plan, the total income from these new taxes will be around $1.8 billion by 2017.
